RIFKIN PHYSICAL THERAPY & LYMPHEDEMA CENTER, LLC
ASK Carmelita….
Q: How do you know which physical therapy practice is best for you?
A: In Connecticut, there is no need to obtain a referral from your doctor to visit a physical therapist unless you have Medicare coverage .
At RIFKIN PHYSICAL THERAPY CENTER LLC, we determine what you’re looking for. Is it greater mobility? lesss pain? More range of motion? Or perhaps you want to get back to a level of functioning which allows you to do the things that once gave you pleasure.
We also ask you what you want to achieve and then incorporate that into our plan of care in order for you to accomplish that.
Each of our therapists pursues additional professional training and course certification, stays current with trends and changes in techniques and cares about making your therapy work for you with individualized plans and hands on care.
Q: Many physical therapy centers have one therapist working with three and four patients at a time, does that happen here?
A: Not at all. We give longer treatments totally focused on you alone during your time with us.
It’s one of the reasons we’ve kept the practice to a manageable size and gained the reputation for quality that we have.
Q: You say you use manual therapy. How different is that from what others do?
A: We specialize in manual therapy which uses gentle, noninvasive techniques to correct the structure of the body so that it can function more normally. We may use machines only when appropriate. Our hands facilitate the healing as our logo implies. Some of the techniques are Myofascial release, Jones Strain/Counter Strain Muscle Energy Technique and Craniosacral Therapy.
Q: You specialize in treating lymphedema. How specialized is that?
A: While I’m a fully licensed physical therapist, the certification in lymphedema is a field of study unto itself. I received certification in the Dr. Vodder Manual Lymph Drainage and Combined Decongestive Therapy back in 2000 and in Klose training and consulting in 2008. I have spent many hours updating that certification and learning new approaches.
We are certified fitters of medical compression garments to assist our patients. We are a member of the National Lymphedema Network and are an NLN Treatment Center.
We have even been instrumental in starting S.T.A.R. 4 LYMPHEDEMA, a non-profit group to support lymphedema patients in getting the treatment and resources they need.
